A violin bow scraped back and forth on various parts of the neck of my acoustic bass with a little bit of reverb and compression applied, several samples to choose from, and a bit at the end that sounds kind of like a big monster snarling. Recorded with a blue yeti blackout.

This is a berimbau, a brazilian gourd instrument made of a wire strung tightly on a piece of bowed staff. There is a wah kind of effect made as you move the gourd in to your belly. There is some ambiance added to the sample, but it's mostly the instrument that you hear.

Sound is a bit of prepared guitar. . . The strings had some "twistie-ties" on them, and they were scraped/bowed with a screw driver near the bridge. Guitar was processed with delay, and i believe maybe some other effects. Sounds, at times, similar to a droning sitar.

Sound made by bowing a detuned guitar tied to a clothes hanger. Recorded with two contact microphones. No effects were added, the apparent reverb tails are the waves resonating within both the guitar and the metallic clothes hanger.

Camera was just in front of cabin - filming for most of the time towards the bow. The sound was captured when the camera was turned to film the two boaters at the helm.

I have an antique cherry cabinet that is at least three times my age. The door has a slight twist to it, and it keeps opening itself. The door catches of yesteryear had a metal prong that pushed two rollers apart. This catch pre-dates that, it's all about springy metal that bows out of the way. And this is the sound it makes when you close it.

This is a recording of applause at the end of the concert in a large auditorium. The conductor and performers walk off and on stage for multiple bows throughout. This is recorded with a small field recorder from a seat in the audience. The file politely clips in parts as people near me clapped, but it's not noticeable. The cough in the beginning is easily cut out, the file loops really well, so you can just delete that section, and it will sound continuous.

This is a snippet of a lesson i had with my incredible undergrad professor where we talk about a piece i was writing for bowed piano ensemble. He was incredibly influential on my creative process and as students we would regularly use his voice in electronic pieces by stealth recording his lectures. It only felt right to use one of these snippets for this project since it brings back so many great memories.

Recording: easy voice recorder (android) on a samsung s7. Post-processing: 2-pass noise removal with audacity due to fluorescent light hum and other background noise.

I recorded a viola for a theatre project. I recorded it in a dry room, close mic with a neumann tlm103. Some samples are just noises of the bow on the c or d string, then once in a while creating overtones, other samples contain some processing with echoboy by soundtoys. Amazing plugins they make!. I was demoing the new digital performer 10. 1 with a royer r-10 pair in blumlein array but wanted to check out one of the ribbons because it possibly sounded blown so i went ahead not bothering to create a new mono file. The mic was tracked through a yamaha mixer into digital performer via a motu 624. I have various cymbals including a paiste hi-hat and a zildjian ride which i bowed or scraped. There is an occasional tiny bit of noise from the hard drive, sorry. It has the hiccups. Some of these have an effect or two like a flange on one or more and a bit of delay but mostly you just hear the marvelous and very interesting cymbals!.

The "concrete cello" pack is a collection of scraping, scratchy and droning improvisations on the cello focussing on the creation of sounds to be used as base materials for future compositions. They were originally recorded in 2019 to be used in as sound design elements for the documentary "hotel regina" by director matthias berger for which i composed the music.
