I was showing my 1 year old my recording studio. He was laughing and talking so i recorded him to play it back. His reaction was as wonderful as i could have hoped. This was recorded in my home studio, on a cad e100s microphone. Recorded in audacity, i copied the clip, lowered the pitch, stretched, added reverb, and reversed the audio. I made this wonderful recording in july 2011 at about 9:00 at night on a hot, muggy july evening. This is the time of year when the insect chorus can get very, very loud. Sounds of a fireworks show i recorded at a private party last year. While not the sound of a huge fireworks show you might hear at disneyland for example, i was right under the rockets being launced so i think it captured good sounds. It was over a lake with a crowd and boats coming and going but i think i was able to edit all those sounds out.

This is a casio sk-1 i did around a year ago or so from reeds book plus a video out and 18 on board rca jacks with another 25 pin dpi that can run through a breakbox. Noise and bent sounds as usual. Crashes alot. Oh and it's not the hardest "mother of bends" serious, i wore socks and everything. : ).

This is penny, a 7 year old female black and white cat who was being very affectionate. Recorded her in the bathroom purring and rubbing on the mic. 50 second in, i put the mic up to her chest while purring. Then at 1 and a half mins, i recorded her drinking water out of the sink. Hopefully someone finds good use for her sounds. I can always get more, and her brother as well.

Although there are a lot of birds in the forests at this time of year, they were quiet today. This was recorded with my 9-year old for a phone app called tiddl. The app was developed to interrogate whether cats could be entertained with a phone app. The recording features torn and crumpled paper, little noises we use to attract our cat, casio. Also featured are: toilet flushing sounds, running water sounds, banter with my studio mate, and a heated exchange about engineering technique.

A late summer soundscape that is a favorite of mine. . Microphones set up in some mature woods about 60 feet from a large lake on labor day weekend. Most of the background is the insects, which are very obvious during this time of year. The swelling of their volume is nap-inducing (*at least to me in my opinion. )here is the midwest this swelling and subsiding of the insect wave tells me that summer is just about starting to go back downhill, after a feverish peak. Despite the covid-19 of the year, nature does not seem to have changed her soundscape. Life goes on in the forests. The birds, whose job of raising young is over, are still there. . . They're just resting and relaxing and listening to the insects as well i'm sure. Now of course you will hear a few prominent birds in this captured moment:(1) a great blue heron squawks out starting at 1:17 into this piece. (2) the alarm call of a red-headed woodpecker can be heard at 2:14. Other than that, just the insects singing their hearts out and the assortment of birds taking secondary place during this time of year. This was recorded from my windowsill facing onto a tarmac driveway in august 2012. There is the occasional tinkling sound of raindrops hitting a metal gate, some traffic noise, the occasional bit of thunder, and some shouts of people getting wet. At the end, raindrops start falling onto the recorder. This is fairly heavy rain by oxford standards; we probably get something like this only a couple of times a year. This fall turned into hail a bit later. Recorded with a marantz pmd661.

This is audio i recorded of my husband using his ten year old decrepit constant positive air pressure sleeping machine. I was trying to convince him that he needed a new one. The variety of sounds he and it managed to make is extraordinary. The intermittent beeping is the machine's warning sound. When i played it for him he cried laughing. I hope you find it useful for something. You'll be please to know his new machine is whisper quiet.

Mournful cows mooing in the night. These are my neighbor's pasture-raised cattle and they have a pretty good life but about this time every year he has to wean the calves. He separates the calves from their mothers. They are on opposite sides of a fence. The fence is a single electric wire. The mothers and their calves are inches from each other but not in the same field. It makes me so sad to hear them in such distress but they seem to get over it in a few days.

The ambiance of the famous strasbourg christmas market, known as one of the oldest in the world (first edition took place in 1570) and the city's biggest touristic event, gathering thousands of people downtown for one month at the end of every year. I took my zoom h2n in different places, capturing a slightly different mood each time. Expect lots of crowd sounds, background music, street atmosphere and. . . A lot of different languages (french, german, spanish, english. . . . All recordings made in ms stereo mode (120° setting).

I made the recording in the town of denholm in scotland. In the recording you can hear fireworks, firecrackers. You can also hear the sounds of conversations in the crowd, screams of children, the sounds of a burning fire. On november 5 this year people across the uk light bonfires, let off fireworks, and burn effigies of a man named guy fawkes. The reason we do this is because it’s the anniversary of the gunpowder plot (1605); a failed attempt to blow up the houses of parliament in london by a group of dissident catholics.

Autorickshaw: a field recording made in bangalore india, of a ride home in an autorickshaw. This was long before the days of electric autorickshaws (~year 2000), so the recording is the sound of the nasty, polluting-well-above-its-weight two-stroke petrol-engine variety. I was going home from a night out with with several friends spread out over three autorickshaws and sometimes you can hear the others in the recording. (the picture is not the actual autorickshaw in the recording, the photo is from pakistan. I didn't get a photo of the one in the recording, but you get the idea. ). Recorded on sony minidisc.

Recorded on the shortest day of the year at the edge of a lake where the wind was gusting from the south at 15 to 20 miles an hour. At the beginning you hear some geese in the distance. This recording was made using my sony pcm m-10 with it's internal microphones set to level 5 input volume. I actually placed the recorder, carefully, in a crook of some branches in an oak tree about 5 feet above the ground---very near a big clump of dead and brown oak leaves. . . . This gives you that wonderful sound of the wind hissing through the leaves.

A recording in the midwestern forest made on sunday september 27th, 2015 around 3:00pm in early autumn. At this time of the year a lot of the summer neo-tropical migrant songbirds either have left for their winter home, or, are quieting down and preparing to leave. During this transition period in early fall the woods are not as loud as, say, three weeks ago. Even the insects seem subdued. At around 12 seconds into this recording you hear the squeaky call of a tree-frog. Recording made with marantz pmd661 and two sennheiser me-66 microphones mounted on a tripod about 4 feet above the ground.

Recording of some new year's celebrations in vienna. Captured using a clippy stereo em172 microphone and a zoom h5 handheld recorder. I positioned the microphone capsules outside the window on the left and right and then gently (almost) closed it. I setup the recorder and rolled the whole evening. This was recorded as foley for a sound design / composition contract i took for a theatre company. We needed a train sound to signify crates of dead soldiers being shipped back from the front lines, to be processed and fed to soldiers holding encampants behind the lines. It was recorded in an arcade adjoining outbuildings of a factory converted to studio and office spaces. I excused myself from rehearsal to catch the recording shortly after learning a woman i'd been seeing for about a year was through with our relationship. I won an award in composition and sound design for the work i did for the play.
