We where located in the news media viewing area called nasa causeway. This as close as anyone can get to the launch. This was the maiden voyage of the orion spacecraft, and one of the very few delta iv heavy launches. In the beginning of recording you hear nasa announcer giving countdown into loud speakers, when you reach around the 1min 50 sec mark the true booster engine sound overtakes the pa system. We are very grateful for the opportunity to share this, most powerful man made machine with 2. 1million pounds of thrust to get millions of pounds into space.

A sample of church bells from a pamplona side street. Recorded in 1985 on a sony walkman using the in-built mics. Recorded onto tdk d90 cassette and stored since then in damp cellars, sheds, and long forgotten drawers. Just today transferred to digital using my fathers old decca legato tape player which we purchased in the early 70s to enable us to send messages to my uncle who had emigrated to australia. Dad says the player cost over £30 then which was more than a weeks wages at the time. I was inter-railing around europe at the time but the recording seems to stop in pamplona. Six weeks later all my money and passport was stolen while in crete and i made my way home via the british consulate in athens.

A short journey on london overground train from dalston to highbury and islington passing through canonbury. Recording includes ticket barrier noises, doors opening and closing and general announcements. This recording was made using a sound devices mixpre6ii and a stereo pair of fel em172 mics. Low cut on the sd which in basic mode is 80hz (i think). There is some processing to this recording to ‘normalize’ the levels and light eq-ing. I do not require any credit or attribution. If any of these sounds have been of help, and you are feeling charitable, please do consider donating to freesound to help keep the site running (a link is also on the home page). This sound was created as follows:. -zynaddsubfx free (and insanely amazing) software synthesizer generated simple g tone using a sine-wave adsynth engine- creative sbs 250 speakers played it back distorting the sound naturally and adding some interesting stereo phasing effects (is that caused by analog signal cable being longer for one speaker?)- i was manually changing the volume using the speaker's potentiometer (whitch is dirty and added some interesting noises on the right speaker, and also at peak loudness during the 54th second the right speaker is quiet)- the output was captured by zoom h2's rear mics- and recorded via usb into audacity free audio editing program- i exported the recording as 16-bit flac.

It's a recording of a calcium-sandoz® forte/fuerte 500 mg effervescent tabled falling into a glass of water and dissolving. You can hear the tablet dropping into the water and water droplet hitting water surface back. After w while - co2 buubles start to appear creating noisy sound. The recording has a long natural fadeout and unfortunately some background noise. I leaved "silence" before the sound starts so you can de-noise the recording to your needs (i prefer audacity for denoisig). Recorded inside of my wardrobe for acoustic isolation using zoom h2 on a mic-stand. Recoded as 96khz/24-bit wav. Normalized, truncated and convertet do 16-bit flac using audacity. I've converted this to 16-bit as it still has plenty of noise and 24-bits would not be any better after normalization.

As the earth continues to slowly tilt the northern hemisphere away from the warmth of the sun's rays, the pace of life in midwestern fields slows down. This recording was made at 3pm on wednesday october 5 2022 in a huge, 70-plus acre, abandoned farm field. A field bordered thousands of acres of state-owned forest. The soft peeps of the few remining birds, grubbing around for protein-packed insects is the soundtrack. At 5 minutes into this recording a delightful, friendly exchange between two birds as if they are saying "hey, let's help each other find food before this field is blanketed with snow at cold. ". At 7:05 in this recording a truck slowly drives by, softly crunching gravel and the driver slows down to witness this annual, melancholy autumnal change. Recorder: zoom f3microphone left channel: deity s mic 2smicrophone right channel: sennheiser mkh 8020. Enjoy.

I've been recording some sounds for a an upcoming project which led me to recording the underside of the lid of a salad spinner and dangling a small plastic tab on it as it spun. It wasn't my intention but it sounds a bit like an old film projector. You can get some interesting results with this clip by messing a bit with the eq which is what i'll be doing for the finished project. This recording was made using a sound devices mixpre6ii and a stereo pair of fel em172 mics. Low cut on the sd which in basic mode is 80hz (i think). There is no processing to this recording other than to ‘normalize’ the levels. I do not require any credit or attribution. This sounds as if it were staged by hollywood, but it actually did happen, i swear! birds chirp away to set the scene, but a beefy thunder roll intrudes. Soon after, raindrops begin to fall as if on cue. Theres a little handling noise click in the begining that is easy to crop out if you like. The recording is unedited. At 1:35 i move the mics closer to the deck so you can hear the splashing. At about at 3:10 i you’ll hear a different timbre as i move away from the rain and under an awning. About 3:45 the rain settles down and the birds start chirping again. Hopefully there are some useful segments in here. Recorded with a dead cat on a tascam dr-05 at 48khz 24 bit, then compressed with “lame --preset insane --scale 10” to make up for the low gain i used (i was afraid a thunderclap would engage the limiter). Cheers.

(recorder: zoomh4npro 2018)(microphones: binaural roland cs-10em in-ear monitors). As these are recorded using binaural in-ear mics, i purposefully attempt not to turn my head to keep the sound clean and coming from the same direction. Of course, if you don't want binaural audio you can always easily convert to mono. This is a recording of me approaching a soda machine in my apartment complex, swiping my credit card in the new, handy-dandy credit card slot, and dispensing a coke zero (in case you really needed to know). Safe for all production as it is voice free. I kept the peaks very low to maintain a natural sound. Enjoy!. Christopher c. Courter.

This was recorded by holding a small pcm recorder (zoom h1n) very close to an ipod 4th generation. The ipod was turned on and its hard drive tried to start up. You can hear the spin up of the motor and the hard drive head clicking back and forth. The hard drive fails to power up completely and eventually shuts down again. A 350 hz high pass filter was applied, in addition to audacity noise reduction, to get this clean motor noise from the original recording. The stereo file was then mixed to mono because the mic was slightly off center from the ipod, and the stereo provides no benefit. The hard drive in this ipod is a 1. 8" 40 gb toshiba hard drive, the ipod model is a1059. The microphone was held just 3 cm (1. 2 in) from the ipod. Recording settings were stereo 44. 1 khz at 16 bit (wav format). The file is the same except it's mono.

The "concrete cello" pack is a collection of scraping, scratchy and droning improvisations on the cello focussing on the creation of sounds to be used as base materials for future compositions. They were originally recorded in 2019 to be used in as sound design elements for the documentary "hotel regina" by director matthias berger for which i composed the music. Part of the impetus of this sampling session was to create cello sounds that would be remiscent of construction machines. (if you look on the geotag you can see the machines, well, sort of). You can listen to the score here :https://doubleblindrec. Bandcamp. Com/album/regina-hotel. These are the close-micced mono raw studio recordings. Neumann u87 into a wa273 and a rme ufx. Recorded by barbara samla at studio aktis in france. Sounds are cco, use them as you will!(but feel free to let me know in what : it's always nice to find out!).

Stereo ambience of people passing by at the kulturforum in berlin. This is a large open concrete space next to the berlin philharmonic hall. It's a warm summer evening and the berlin philharmonics have just finished an open air concert. The recording starts about 15 minutes after the end of the concert while everyone is leaving the place, maybe about 1000-1500 people. The crowd is generally in a happy and talkative mood. There are lots of international folks and tourists, so you'll not only hear german, but also english and lots of other languages. After six minutes or so there is also a police siren in the background. Recorded with a zoom h6 (xy mics). In the same pack there is also a second recording starting directly at the end of the concert with people applauding. It is can be found here.

My original dw toms, mixed with themselves 1 octave up [the octave up is lowered -6db and the envelope reshaped to allow loud only the attack]. Then for that resulting mixdow again the same thing [so i used the same method two times]. At all steps i was using the simple compressor[not multiband] for not allowing overlimiting. For the two general mixdowns [because it was a double process] i used hard compressor at -0. 45 dbs. And for the two octavic parallel channels i used hard compressor -3. 60 dbsbecause the octave doesn't sound realistic if not well compressed. For all my dw octavic tomsed i used the same exact method. My original dw toms are here if you want to read data or mics. These toms do not sound realistic as stand alone sounds. These harmonics work better only in a complete mixdown, and have increased audibility than the original recordings [for silent music parts use the original because low velocity of parallel instruments will expose the supportive tom-harmonics].

This recording was made in the path of totality of the august 21st 2017 eclipse, in the woods surrounding devil's kitchen lake in southern illinois. It's a stereo extract from a longer, 88 minute b format recording. The purpose of making the recording was to see how the eclipse affected the sounds produced by insects and birds. In this extract, totality occurs exactly 10:00 minutes in; and ends at exactly 12:38. This mirrors the time totality occurred at devil's kitchen lake: from 1:20:27pm to 1:23:05pm central time. Mic: core sound tetramicrecorder: zoom f8. Panorama of the recording site: https://photos. App. Goo. Gl/t2m3esbcm71l4wzza. With thanks to jay needham for being a good host, and guidance on where rattlesnakes like to hang out. Please note that this is a 48k 24bit flac file - flac files can be easily read and converted by audacity [https://www. Audacityteam. Org/] and reaper [http://reaper. Fm/], among others.

Damaged smartphone screen protector being broken and crushed in bare hands (should've used gloves. . . ). Recorded with behringer b-1 microphone into focusrite scarlett 2i2 3rd gen. Into audacity on arch linux at 192 khz/24 bit. The recording was not processed or edited in any way to retain maximum flexibility to sound artists who will use this as an element. This can be useful as a sound effect for freezing or burning or deep-frying or even rain (when slowed down). Thanks to extremely wide frequency range the recording can be cleanly slowed down up to 25% speed. There's clean frequency content up to 80 khz in the recording. In a few places the mic gain was too much and a pop is clipped, but could still be useful for sound of braking or snapping something (bone?). No denoising was applied - perform your own if needed, though the sounds are mostly free of background hum (a bit of pc noise can be heard in the first minute before i turned down the gain).

This is a recording of an office paper shredder starting up. This model of paper shredder has a button that you can press to run it briefly in reverse, in order to clear paper jams and clean the blades. If the shredder hasn't been used in a while, it takes several seconds to start, and makes a cool noise while doing so. The click at the start of the recording is the switch being pressed. You then hear the motor struggling to start up for about five seconds, and finally it comes up to speed. The high-frequency crackling you hear, particularly once the motor is running smoothly, comes from bits of paper still rolling around in the blades (easy to convert into a campfire or rain). There's another click at the end when the reverse button is released. I uploaded this because several parts of the recording sounded like they'd lend themselves to morphing in various ways to create other interesting noises. Recorded with a hand-held zoom h4n, stereo 96 khz / 24 bits, with the built-in mics, positioned about six inches above the rotating blades of the shredder.

This recording is for people who hate the highlighted high frequencies. An old sabian aax small recorded with a røde m5 mic. I the created two copies of the original recording:1. On the first file i applied low pass at 2 khz and hard compression at -24 db without makeup gain. 2. On the second file i applied high pass at 2 khz and hard compression at -24 db without makeup gain. Then i lowered -2 db all the spectrum except for the band from 3. 5 khz to 9. 1 khz and i applied hard compression at -24 db without makeup gain. I merged the two files. The envelope was very flat due to the compression and thus i reshaped it on wavelab (process > level envelope. . . Or press the "v" keyboard button; draw a natural fade out in steps [non-linear]). The result is a warm crash for people who don't want them loud.

I recorded this in my living room with mics in an x-pattern on the couch very close together, using a tascam dr-70d and behringer dyynamic microphones with patch cables for optimal volume. I recorded this at maximum gain on the tascam as two stereo files, then conjoined them to a 6-channel audio file properly and mixed the front two channels to a monaural center channel for added effect. The final result is what can be downloaded here. Tghe music in the background is part of the star trek: generations expanded complete score, and is coming from my computer to the rear of the recording, which lasts just over a minute in length, and the music was just background noise for testing purposes only. No copyright infringement was intended. Credit for the music goes to the now late jerry goldsmith and also dennis mccarthy, who is still alive. I hope you like this audio demonstration, and find it useful when considering rigs like the holophone, or comparible 5. 1 surround sound microphones / rigs. I take no credit for this recording, as it was done for demonstration purposes only. Have fun!.

August, 2nd 2013. About eight and a half minutes worth of summer evening ambience, with crickets and cicadas leading the evening songs. Nothing too eventful, but a nice finish to a great day. Recorded at 48khz, 24 bit. Stereo pair of behringer c-2s (cardioid). The mics have an on-board 3-position switch, with labels "flat," "low-cut," and "-10db. " the switch was set in the -10db position (whoops!). It is unclear if this position also activates the low-cut. Additionally, a 24db/oct low-cut applied in pro-tools at 80hz to clean up a slight wind ruffle. Since it was late at night, and the rest of the family was in bed, i opened my window and placed the microphones (almost) right up against the screen. The a/c unit you can hear is directly below the window. Around the 4:45 mark, the digital thermostat hit a programming mark and kicked the air conditioner back on. Roughly one minute later, i adjusted the thermostat to turn the unit back off. Location: suburbs of atlanta. Free to use whenever and wherever! i'd be interested to hear/see where you use it!.

This was recorded during a harsh storm here i stockholm. Harsh winds blowing thru a small forest. Details such as leaves rustling and hard stormy winds are key components in this recording. It sounds like a storm is approaching what do you think?. I honestly don't remember what i did in post. . . I think i removed alot of bass/rumble, added an expander to remove some unwanted noise to help the winds and leaves to stand out. I probably used rx to clean up some unwanted noises. Equipment:zoom h5 + sony ecm 6080s condenser mic. This was a test to see how the stereo configuration on the ecm 6080s sounded like. I really like it but i would prefer an ab configuration with 2 dpa 2011 or even 2 4060. . . I like the sound it was able to capture even if it may be a little to "centered". I probably will try to use it for my future hiking trips to capture rivers and general ambiances, if i get something special i will upload them here. Hope you like it.

Let me set the scene for this audio because i am a nerd. . . Burbank, california. A large apartment/condominium complex with an open courtyard and a swimming pool and hot tub. Now, for some reason in la, nobody ever seems to actually use pools or hot tubs anymore so it's not hard to get clean audio. So, from beginning to end you will basically hear me turn the automatic shutoff dial on the wall, walk to the hot tub, get in the hot tub, and sit in various positions for extended periods of time. Trying to start a 1983 volvo 245 after a stop at a gas station. First we hear the seatbelt warning signal after the driver turns the ignition on. The first start attempt fails. The two following attempts fail because the starter fails to engage with the flywheel, creating a very loud and unpleasant sound. There is some reverberation from the metal roof of the gas station. At 00:24, the driver remarks "he's doing it again!". The fourth attempt succeeds in starting the engine after a rather long cranking. We then drive off and we also hear some squeaking from the steering wheel. Throughout the recording we hear breathing noises from the driver (80 year old man, smoker). The recording was made in the front passanger seat with the window open, that's why there a very noticable difference between the left and right channel. Non-functional tube radio warming up, making a loud 60hz hum with lots of harmonics. As a bonus it clicks off at the end. Zenith consoltone. Only because the faq says so: electro voice n/d 257a through impedance transformer into crappy gigabyte motherboard realtek high definition audio. 16bits, processed at 32bits. Audacity sound editor and/or driver wouldn't record mic level so it was very noisy after amplification. Filtered with a (mathematically equivalent) fft constructed whopping 64k length zero phase filter (blackman window) with 5 wavelength width bandpass at each harmonic from 60hz to 5,520hz. For some reason a fraction of some of the harmonics didn't get through so did another pass on the residual noise and mixed that in. Near the beginning there was a sort of brief duplicate signal that descended in pitch so it didn't make it through the filter. I added that bit in. Attenuated frequencies above 3. 6khz because they are pretty much noise, but removing them didn't sound right. Cleaned up the beginning a bit in various ways, cut it down to 15 sec and carefully appended the unfiltered "click" onto the end, which i denoised 12db with audacity's noise reduction.

This file is a 6-channel 24-bit flac file encoded using ffmpeg from the raw wav files exported from the original ardour session. There are several issues with this recording however:. 1. The tracks seem to drift, because the individual audio interface clocks were not in sync. The proper way to record multitrack audio is using a single multichannel audio interface - but i didn't have one. 2. There's either x-runs or some usb transfer issues creating small glitches and dropouts in various tracks her and there. Don't know why did this happen, as we've been tracking the real drummer's performance without these issues. Now - fixing these issues manually would be an insane amount of work, but i hope maybe someone has means to either solve them with programming a special tool, or know a tool that could fix these, and make this recorded session ready to be sliced as a drumkit for say - drumgizmo. There's some really good stuff in here - an i was able to cut and mix some really nice drum samples, that i've been using for years, but it's not ready to be fully sliced for maximum flixibility. The instrument was played by myself - it's a drumset by pearl (don't remember the details), owned by the drummer of a band i recorded this with. The band was called small hint - hence the drumkit name. We were recording an ep, and i used some free time left to capture this as well. The ep was never finished and we disbanded soon after. Regarding fixing the issues - here's what i think needs to be done:. 1. I think each hit would have to be automatically phase-aligned on all 6 channels, to correct for the drift. 2. I think it should be possible to automatically detect clicks by simply watching for a sudden change in amplitude between adjacent samples - marking bad areas and then using something like audacity's repair effect to interpolate the waveforms. I think the glitches have much steeper changes in amplitude than even the drum transients, so it should be possible to differentiate between those automatically. If you found a way to fix at least some of these problems - please let me know!. If you've made some "remixes" on freesound - i'd also love to know that. Apart from that - sample what you can out of this and make some sick drum tracks!.

I'm attempting to create a controllable thunderstorm for a film, and this is my first legitimate attempt. This recording consists of 4 samples of rain, and another 3 samples of rain+thunder that i recorded one afternoon. Equipment used was the inbuilt mics on a roland r-26, and a sennheiser me66 into a sound devices 702. The clips were recorded at 96khz/24-bit, and they were processed at 48khz/24-bit. For processing, i put the samples into kyma, and crossfaded for texture. The howling wind sound is an analog-style low pass filter's frequency, level, and resonance being controlled by a wacom intuos4 pen/tablet. The rain slowly swells, which was done by changing parameters of a granular reverb. The thunder was also controlled by the wacom tablet, with x, y, and z (pressure) dimensions mapped to making the thunder swell in level, density, and texture. This could have been output in surround, but i don't have that many monitors ;). This style of "rain-synthesis" can also go on indefinitely. Please let me know what you think of the quality of this track; eg, if it sounds real, if the wind sounds ridiculous, too much thunder, etc. Use this sound (wherever) if you want to, or let me know if you'd like an mp3 of this, or for it to last longer. I'd like some credit if you do use it, but it's no big deal. A blog is up explaining the method of creation here:http://www. Kylehughesaudio. Com/2/post/2013/02/tempest. Html.

In front of my desk in my room is a wood paneled wall with a cubbie. It's about a foot wide, 10 inches from top to bottom and maybe 7 inches deep. I'm just guessing. Around this cubbie is a border of wood. In the bottom right corner under the border i have jammed one end of an elastic string that used to have glitter on it. It's from a christmas box of chocolates my uncle sent me last year. I stand in front of this cubbie whose bottom is at chin height, (i'm only 5ft1in) so my arms are above my head as i pull this string across the cubbie up and to the left to the border on the top which acts as my only fret. The string is a few inches longer than the cubbie is wide, but when i pull it it gets longer so my hand is 3/4 along it's length as i pull back and forth across the border to tighten and loosen the string. No matter how hard i pull it never pops loose from it's mooring. This time the mic is sitting in the cubby so i get a much clearer and louder sound. When i stretch the string across the top it has a fairly long sustain, so i can play 4 notes on a single pluck.

A heartbeat sound i made, complete with some gurgling, blood-rushing sounds. Just uploaded a version without the gurgling, in case you prefer the way that sounds. To make this, i took a kick-drum sample and a snare-drum sample, and made a loop of kick-snare, kick-snare, kick-snare, over and over. After that, i eq'd out the more drum-like parts of each sample, added reverb to dull it, a chorus plugin and some compression to remove some of the drums' attack. . . Basically processed the hell out of them. To get the blood gurgling sound, i filled a water-bottle almost all the way full and turned it sideways, so i had a massive air-bubble floating around. I then tilted the bottle back and forth in front of my blue yeti usb condenser mic, so you could hear the air-bubble swishing. I had to be pretty gentle, because if you rock the horizontal bottle too much, the bubble moves too fast and makes a fake-sounding "gloomp. ". When i was happy with it, i mixed the heartbeat sound and the gurgling sounds so they'd work well together. Both the sounds were in mono, so i used a free plugin called wok ms-t on both of them to create a fake hard-panned stereo effect. I wanted it to sound like you'd been running, and were hearing the heartbeat in your ears. I think it turned out pretty cool. .

I won't claim that this is a ghost as i am sure many would debunk, only that i believe it to be. This is an evp i found during playback for something else i recorded in audacity with a usb condenser mic. This happens a lot and i have quite a few. It sounds to me like a voice that is not mine is saying "watch" i cleaned it up as much as i could but this was barely audible originally so i had to bring up the volume a lot which made the noise floor pretty loud. I did some noise reduction to make it sound cleaner. I have personally had experiences that i believe to be supernatural but decide for yourself as you listen or use it as make believe. I have more i will upload when i can including ones from places that have been researched and said to be haunted (taken on my phone). I have to find them but as i come across them or new ones i will share. No need to credit me, i am just sharing this for fun. It creeps me out, and gives me chills so hopefully it does the same for you mwuah hahahahaha! enjoy ;). This is my recreation of the noise in the background of a video shot on a consumer grade minidv camcorder (a well used one). I haven't had a minidv camcorder on hand for a few years and nobody i knew would give me a recording of just tape motor noise so i went to create the noise myself. This sound is a combination of a very badly pressed dvd in my computer's drive mixed with a tone made in audacity (up one octave from the tone that the disc ended up creating), all mixed down and brought down in volume. I know it's not a prefect recreation, but i don't have a minidv camcorder on hand so this is about as good as i can get it. If anyone has access to an anechoic chamber, a fresh tape, and a well used consumer grade minidv camcorder, please get in touch with me. I'd like the real deal better than my recreation that i did in my spare time. Note on recreating the noise out of hdv camcorders. They have slightly different hardware and as such will create different bearing noise (most times, there's an extra whine on top of the familiar bearing whine heard from standard dv camcorders). I forget the exact frequency, but it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 840hz-860hz and it's a sort of sine wave, but a modest bit more jagged. You'll have to provide your own stock camcorder mic hiss as each camcorder is different (not for definite sure on sony camcorders, but canon camcorders have a pink-ish white noise in about that era).

I made this recording of ambient backgroud noise directly beneath the eiffel tower. The shape of the eiffel tower creates a unique acoustic environment in the vicinity of the tower, especially beneath it. You can hear a much higher level of background noise than you would hear in an open area, and the noise is unusual. The tower is made of thin pieces of iron arranged into a complex and very large lattice, which reflects and slices and dices sound in a unique way. Thus you have a high level of very even and unidentifiable background noise as noises from the ground and the platform get bounced around and distorted by the structure of the tower. This recording was made from the ground, with microphones pointed straight upwards about 2 meters off the ground. Noises from the ground travel upwards and bounce around the inside of the tower, then drift back down. There are noises in the tower itself as well, such as elevator motors and people on the platforms. The first platform, at 57 meters, is open in the center, whereas the second platform, at 116 meters, is completely closed and flat on the bottom. Wind moving through the tower also makes noise, and again the open structure of the tower changes the noise in a way that is specific to the eiffel tower. There wasn't much wind at ground level for this recording, but i don't know what the wind speed was at higher levels in the tower. Some voices in multiple languages are audible in the recording, as the area beneath the tower is awash in tourists. Recorded hand-held with a zoom h4n and a mini windjammer, using built-in mics, in stereo 96 khz / 24 bits, then converted to mp3 at 320 kbps because of the size of the file. Duration is about two minutes.

Here are some recordings of some of my basic woodwork tools. I'll try and get better recordings in the future but i share a workshop and it is rarely quiet enough to get good recordings. All recordings are me working on a piece of 25mm thick walnut timber. Listening back has made me realise that all of these tools need sharpening!! :). The recordings are as follows:. 00:00 - 00:26stanley block plane fine shaving the edge of the timber. 00:28 - 01:33stanley 5m retractable tape measure, metal blade and plastic casing. Tape being wound out and drawn back in. 01:36 - 03:30milwaukee m12 battery drill. Trigger being pressed, chuck opening and closing and bits being changed. Drilling into timber. Driving screws into the timber and removing them again. 03:32 - 05:14lie nielsen crosscut tenon saw cutting across the grain of the timber. 05:17 - endgeneral purpose wood saw 'ripping' along the grain of the timber. This recording was made using a sound devices mixpre6ii and a stereo pair of fel em172 mics. Low cut on the sd which in basic mode is 80hz (i think). There is no processing to this recording other than to ‘normalize’ the levels. I do not require any credit or attribution. If any of these sounds have been of help, and you are feeling charitable, please do consider donating to freesound to help keep the site running (a link is also on the home page). Any donations are greatly appreciated!.

This is the audible annunciation found at all intersections with traffic lights in paris, france. It announces the condition of the traffic lights for pedestrians who are blind or with impaired vision. The annunciation is turned on by pressing a button on the traffic light pole. When the crosswalk sign is red (do not cross), the recorded annunciation is always "rouge piéton" ("red light, pedestrian"), followed by the name of the street that the crosswalk crosses (in this case "rue d'antin," the quiet side street where i recorded this). This repeats over and over until the crosswalk changes to green, at which point there is a two-second trill tone followed by a repeating bell tone. The bell tone is one bell, followed by two bells, repeated four times, followed by a very brief pause, and then the sequence is repeated again. This continues until the crosswalk changes back to red, at which point the "rouge piéton" message resumes. The annunciation continues for at least one cycle of the traffic lights and then stops, unless the button is pressed again. The audio quality of the annunciation is very poor even in real life (it sounds like a wax cylinder recording or something), and can be difficult to understand. This recording accurately captures the poor quality of the annunciation. The volume of the annunciation is also adjusted dynamically based on ambient noise, so there is a slight change in volume on this recording as the system apparently reacts to noise from traffic or something. There is a weak background noise that sounds like some sort of machine, but it wasn't coming from the traffic light and i don't know the source. The recording starts with the crosswalk red, then at about 18. 3 seconds it changes to green, then it changes back to red at about 53 seconds. A car passes at around 48 seconds. Recorded with a zoom h4n, stereo 96 khz / 24 bits, built-in mics, from about ten inches below the tiny speaker in the crosswalk sign housing.

It's a 15-minute long drum improvisation. It contails a lot of different beats and rhythms played so you might cut-out some loops for your needs. The kit has:- single kick- snare- hihat- 3 toms- broken crash that sounds really short- ride. The kit was old and not in perfect condition. I also used my sticks to play on some other part of the drumkit, like metal stand for the crash etc. I also got up and stated running around in a circle hitting sticks together and afterwards hitting drums and cymbals while running around the drumkit. I took my shoes off before i started so you can't hear my footsteps. I didn't use a metronome and i know i don't hold the tempo and it's a bit wiggly sometimes. I think this performace was inspired by band mr. Bungle. I recorded this with zoom h2 handy recorder's front stereo xy mics. It was standing on a table about one meter above the floor. Facing the drumkit and me. It was captured into a 48khz/24-bit wav file, then i trimmed the ends and converted this to flac using audacity. No processing applied, though i think it sounds nicer when you put these effects:. 1. A compressor:-attack: 10ms-release: 50ms-ratio: 2. 5:1-treshold: around -24db2. A reverb:-decay: 1. 5 to 2 seconds-dry: 0db-wet: around -15 db. It amazes me how much energy compression actually adds to drums!. I made this with my podcast (http://unfamusic. Com/fnr/) in mind. I want to overdub guitars, vocals and make it one big schizophrenic song. If you're interested to hear it, leave me a comment so i can find you, or just subscribe to my podcast's rss (http://feeds. This is a collection of "small room reverb" impulse responses that i sampled in a new england home known as butternut lodge, built and owned by actress bette davis back in 1940. It consists of all wooden rooms with many non-parallel surfaces, rugs and furniture and includes 3 round-shaped "silo" rooms! these rooms sound clean and do not have the irritating "ping" of many rectangular rooms. Short history/pictures of butternut (https://www. Airbnb. Com/rooms/24692769?source_impression_id=p3_1659215694_liuasyfxoceab5fn). Although these round shapes (and some of the other very small rooms) could potentially wreak havoc with phase at specific frequencies when summed to mono, i recorded this using the mid/side mic technique; therefore, the "side" channels fully cancel out, leaving a clean monaural reverb signal. These irs are stored as flac files. They can be used directly by any daw without conversion and have the added feature of being id3 tagged with a photo of the room each ir is taken from. After downloading, select view -> large icons in the folder to view the rooms. I sampled each room using a swept sine wave into a jbl flip 6 bluetooth speaker; recorded through a tascam tm-st1 m/s stereo microphone, feeding a tascam dr-07 recorder @ 24-bits 44. 1 khz and deconvolved using reaper. As of this post, i've been using these rooms for about 2 weeks. So far, i've found the "garage" to sound fantastic on drums! the drum sound! also, many of the other smaller rooms have a great effect on guitars, keys, and hand percussion. Each room varies in tone and brightness, so i've found that selecting/tuning the reverb send works well if approached like an eq. Increase the effect send until the instrument "feels" right (then perhaps back off slightly). A close-miked acoustic guitar, for instance, will take on a nice brightness and 3-d quality; not particularly reverberant, just big. At that point, i recommend applying any eq, compression, and bigger-sounding reverb effects. Hopefully you enjoy this. Please let me know how you like it and if you have any suggestions. Cheers!. Ken.

Ok, i don't know how many of you might be interested in this, but i figure there's no harm in posting it. I'm working on some original songs. Laptop-based, electronic songs, with many orchestral parts, including violin, viola, cello, and string bass. Presonus studio one has some very nice vst string instruments, and i have some really great ones for kontakt. But they all are missing one thing, and i couldn't find the (admittedly esoteric) sound that i'm looking for anywhere on the internet. Being a viola player myself, i recorded myself playing these very particular incidental sounds. Let me explain-. There's this 'grabby' sound that a well-rosined bow makes just is it is first being drawn across the string. Listen carefully to any of the pros and you'll hear it. In your laptop sequences, if used subtly, right at the point where the first note of a phrase is initiated, this sound can give the string part a marked sense of realism*. This, combined with vibrato, reverb and a nice warm/tube/tape saturation setting, nobody will be able to tell the difference between your vst and the real thing. About the audio-i tried to keep them as pitchless as possible, thus not limiting their utility. I recorded two sets of all four open strings (c, g, d, a), first close mic'ed, and once from a few feet away, in stereo. Or to say it another way, the sounds are as follows-1. Open c close2. Open g close3. Open d close4. Open a close5. Open c far6. Open g far7. Open d far8. Open a far. It's totally overkill for me to record all the different versions, but i suppose somebody out there might find one more appropriate than another for their purposes. They work pretty effortlessly for violin and viola, but you might have to pitch them down for cello and string bass. I added no processing whatsoever, apart from normalizing each individual sound. Aiff, recorded at 44/16. Nady scm-2090 stereo condenser mic, focusrite saffire pro 24 interface, recorded in logic. Not the quietest room, but these sounds will be so far down in the mix that it won't matter. Free for all to download, no attribution necessary. Http://www. Freesound. Org/people/bruce%20burbank/sounds/220917/. As an example, here's the part i'm working on that motivated me to record these sounds, with the grabby sound in place. See if you can spot the three times i used it. *pro tip- much the same way i'll insert an inhale breath right before horn or oboe phrases.

With some effects processing, these recordings can create great cinematic impacts and atmosphere. Markers inserted through audition to mark out some of the sounds i found particularly useful. Recorded in my dad's bedroom with lifecam hd3000 webcam. This is a much better recording than my previous oxygen concentrator file, as i hauled my desktop into the bedroom at the other end of the apartment where the machine now is, when i was home alone. The webcam is on the bed about 3 or 4 feet from the machineat the beginning of the file you hear me flip the big switch and the machine comes on with a long on beep and thumps. I edited it to start then. At 00:1. 8 what i suspect is the water pump comes on, though i may be wrong. That's when the gurgling starts though. The machine has a small reservoir for distilled water to moisten the airflow. A cup or two lasts several daysyou'll hear various hisses and thumps in a 15. 6 second cycle as it runs. At 03:03 i flip the big switch to shut the machine off, and it bubbles and gurgles away for the rest of the file, as water i assume slowly perculates back into the reservoir, the bubbling getting quieter and quieter until it doesn't even sound like bubbling anymore, until it finally ticks to a stop. At 03:16 you hear me step as i get my foot loose from the mic cord lol. At 04:13 the furnace shuts down as a car finishes going by outside in the bass register, faint traffic noises and the furnace being the only background noises you'll hear aside from my moving around a couple times, and a faint bluejay at the end. At about 07:00 you can barely hear the machine anymore, but i could hear a faint ticking with my own ears. At 07:04 the furnace comes back on. At 07:08 you'll hear a bluejay faintly calling outside and a car going by outside after, which finishes the file at 07:20. I edited out my walking to the computer to shut the recording down. From wikipediaoxygen concentrators typically use pressure swing adsorption technology and are used very widely for oxygen provision in healthcare applications, especially where liquid or pressurised oxygen is too dangerous or inconvenient, such as in homes or in portable clinics. Oxygen concentrators are also used to provide an economical source of oxygen in industrial processes, where they are also known as oxygen gas generators or oxygen generation plants. Oxygen concentrators utilize a molecular sieve to adsorb gasses and operate on the principle of rapid pressure swing adsorption of atmospheric nitrogen onto zeolite minerals and then venting the nitrogen. This type of adsorption system is therefore functionally a nitrogen scrubber leaving the other atmospheric gasses to pass through. This leaves oxygen as the primary gas remaining. Psa technology is a reliable and economical technique for small to mid-scale oxygen generation, with cryogenic separation more suitable at higher volumes and external delivery generally more suitable for small volumes. [1]at high pressure, the porous zeolite adsorbs large quantities of nitrogen, due to its large surface area and chemical character. After the oxygen and other free components are collected the pressure drops which allows nitrogen to desorb. An oxygen concentrator has an air compressor, two cylinders filled with zeolite pellets, a pressure equalizing reservoir, and some valves and tubes. In the first half-cycle the first cylinder receives air from the compressor, which lasts about 3 seconds. During that time the pressure in the first cylinder rises from atmospheric to about 1. 5 times normal atmospheric pressure (typically 20 psi/138 kpa gauge, or 1. 36 atmospheres absolute) and the zeolite becomes saturated with nitrogen. As the first cylinder reaches near pure oxygen (there are small amounts of argon, co2, water vapour, radon and other minor atmospheric components) in the first half-cycle, a valve opens and the oxygen enriched gas flows to the pressure equalizing reservoir, which connects to the patient's oxygen hose. At the end of the first half of the cycle, there is another valve position change so that the air from the compressor is directed to the 2nd cylinder. Pressure in the first cylinder drops as the enriched oxygen moves into the reservoir, allowing the nitrogen to be desorbed back into gas. Part way through the second half of the cycle there is another valve position change to vent the gas in the first cylinder back into the ambient atmosphere, keeping the concentration of oxygen in the pressure equalizing reservoir from falling below about 90%. The pressure in the hose delivering oxygen from the equalizing reservoir is kept steady by a pressure reducing valve. Older units cycled with a period of about 20 seconds, and supplied up to 5 litres per minute of 90+% oxygen. Since about 1999, units capable of supplying up to 10 lpm have been available.

Calm ambient track. Winter woods / pinewood february 12. 41 pm (noon) in the netherlands near village giersbergen. Bram’s admin request-text and my answer in audio. Hello freesounders,it happens very infrequently that i post requests. However, i have an extraordinary sad reason to do so today. I don't want to go into detail in this public forum, but someone incredibly important and incredibly young in my life and my wife's just passed away. I am thus looking for an extra long recording of a peaceful "forrest ambience" to play during the good-bye ceremony. Something with some birds and perhaps some wind through the leaves,. . . . Currently the ceremony is planned for april 6th so i would need this before then. I know i can look through freesound, but i would like something specifically recorded with this in mind, something we will be able to listen to later as well, remembering this important and sad time in our life. . . Yours in grief,- bram & familywhat you hear;general-noise; soft wind in woods, sometime a bit increasing. A far kid at the edge of hamlet giersbergen. Far hum of the woods. More recordings here search: giersbergen. About the area, national park loonse en drunense duinen. (text by irma de potter, ranger of this area) dutch website: https://www. Natuurmonumenten. Nl/natuurgebieden/nationaal-park-loonse-en-drunense-duinen. In the loonse en drunense duinen you will find forest, heathland and especially a lot of sand. It is one of the largest shifting sand areas in western europe. The wind can blow undisturbed in many places, resulting in an ever-changing landscape. By purchasing it in 1921, it has been protected for 100 years and we can still enjoy this brabant sahara today. You can roam freely on the sand plain. So there is plenty of room to explore extensively. Marvel at the submerged trees, enjoy the chirping field crickets and quench your thirst at one of the many cafes or restaurants on the edge of this nature reserve. Walking, cycling or on horseback: it's all possible here. With the wind in your hair and the sand in your shoes. You may even come across the sheep herd. The sheep keep the heath short and eat away saplings. This is how they keep the area open. The loonse en drunense duinen still has 270 hectares of shifting sand. That sand creates rather extreme conditions: the soil is dry and nutrient-poor. The difference in temperature between day and night can be as much as 50 degrees celsius. This ensures a unique flora and fauna. The animals and plants have adapted or feel at home in drought, aridity and temperature fluctuations. Sand sedge and various lichens, for example. And the viviparous lizard, sandpit beetles and sand bees. All species that love sand. In the last ice age, the polar winds blew sand from the north to brabant, where it remained in thick packages. For a long time this sandy plain was covered with primeval forests. Until the fourteenth century the trees were felled by people. They used the wood as fuel. The bare plain was filled with heather, where the farmers grazed their cattle. This intensive grazing and the sod cutting of the soil depleted the soil. This gave the sand free play. For a long time, the sand was a major problem for the residents. Villages and fields threatened to disappear under it. Trees were planted to stop the advancing sand. You can still see the traces of this today: find the submerged trees that only peak above the sand hills with their crowns. Date/time: february 15th tuesday 2017, start 12. 44 pm.
