The "concrete cello" pack is a collection of scraping, scratchy and droning improvisations on the cello focussing on the creation of sounds to be used as base materials for future compositions. They were originally recorded in 2019 to be used in as sound design elements for the documentary "hotel regina" by director matthias berger for which i composed the music. Part of the impetus of this sampling session was to create cello sounds that would be remiscent of construction machines. (if you look on the geotag you can see the machines, well, sort of). A short cello phrase recorded in amstelveen (netherlands) on the 22th of september 2012. A rme fireface 400 soundcard was used and ableton live as recording software. The resulting sound is a mix between recording with a zoom h4n (used as microphone), a dpa 4099 and an oktava mk-012 microphone.
