This is a recording of an office paper shredder starting up. This model of paper shredder has a button that you can press to run it briefly in reverse, in order to clear paper jams and clean the blades. If the shredder hasn't been used in a while, it takes several seconds to start, and makes a cool noise while doing so. The click at the start of the recording is the switch being pressed. You then hear the motor struggling to start up for about five seconds, and finally it comes up to speed. The high-frequency crackling you hear, particularly once the motor is running smoothly, comes from bits of paper still rolling around in the blades (easy to convert into a campfire or rain). There's another click at the end when the reverse button is released. I uploaded this because several parts of the recording sounded like they'd lend themselves to morphing in various ways to create other interesting noises. Recorded with a hand-held zoom h4n, stereo 96 khz / 24 bits, with the built-in mics, positioned about six inches above the rotating blades of the shredder.

One sudden peel, truncated, modified and reversed in various ways until it sounded (to me) like it could vaguely represent the sound of sewing. . . . A cataclystic, "buildup" sound effect resulted from extreme manipulation from two digital audio workstations - fl11 and reaper. The base sample was a public domain sound of a roland d50-esque sounding element which was heavily edited using volume-scaled automation, reverberation, pitch-shifting, transpositioning and trimming audio.

I stopped along a bike ride in order to record the sound of monument creek. In this recording, the phone mic was a few inches above the water, and i was about twenty feet from a set of mild rapids.

Up-close rain sounds recorded with a high quality zoom mic.

Construction truck backing up -beeps onlyrecorded with a tascam dr-07 mkii.

Bat stuck in a heating duct. Recorded with an iphone 5s a couple of inches away. (the bat eventually got unstuck and flew out unharmed. ).

A normal sized orange balloon was blown up to a moderate size. A zoom h6 recorder was used, with the xy capsule, in a normal room.

An up-close recording of a single cricket chirping. I recorded this with a shure beta 57a microphone, at my house, with the mic a few inches away from one of my housemate's crickets (don't ask). I used cubase and izotope denoise to remove noise artifacts, as well as a low-cut to remove unwanted low freqs. Recorded in mono but exported in stereo, so both the left and right audio channels are the same.

I also uploaded neck-snap and neck-snap_short. These are all the same sound with _short being the file with the fastest tempo. All sounded like bones crunching to me, but the source was actually the sound of a boot stepping on a pair of dry pine cones from an austrian pine. Use it for whatever it sounds like to you.

This is a charged up explosion i made for my project. It is used when a robotfalls on the ground and slows builds up then explode. I used a laser sound modified it with audacity, and combine with some smaller explosion and edited explosion sound with audacity.
