Wrote this while watching the rain outside my window. I was thinking about a friend who is going through a hard time. I couldn't come up with anything to do with it but maybe you can. A composition of sound effects used at the ending of the production _blithe spirit_. This piece starts with a car starting, speeding up, skidding, and ending in a crash. I combined a lot of fx from this site to make a huge explosion with a large aftermath and ringing in the ears- to make it a more 'cinematic' moment, i have a build up in reverse to the moment, a pause, then the explosion. Rubble and glass fall as the listeners' ears ring from the explosion.

I was trying to make a subtle beat in the background of a song and turned up the cutoff and got this. It sounds like a robot frog to me, and i figured i might as well post it in case someone gets any use out of it. Changes pitch every four bars. 100 bpm.

A cartoony effect that sounds like meat being slapped onto a grill with a sizzle. Perfect for hot takes and transitions. I created the beat using ableton. I recorded the guitar part on my fender strat, useing warping ableton to tighten up my playing. I used a peavey mic (away from comp will check model when i get home) going to a fast track ultra audio driver. Please credit me if you use it.

Kittens: the screeching of 3 week old kittens is very distinct. Real kittens can be heard here. It is high-pitched and a “close-up” of these sounds coming from these tiny creatures. By overlapping some of the screeching it creates the illusion of more kittens. A slight purr can be heard which comes from the mother. Recorded with the zoom h6, rode ntg.

Purring of cat: this sound is extremely distinct. It is an up-close recording of the vibrations emitted by a cat when they are happy. It is an accurate representation because an actual cat was used to record this sound. Recorded with the zoom h6, rode ntg. This is a great sound if you are looking for an extreme specific purr unaccompanied by other noises.

Tying shoelaces: a close-up listen to a very subtle sound when two pieces of string is being tied around each other. You can hear the fumbling of hands swooshing the string around each other and a harder sound of when the knot is being pulled so that it doesn't come loose. Can be used for dramatics and overexaggerating. Recorded with the zoom h6, rode ntg.

New zealand native bellbird (korimako). Recorded on kapiti island, a bird sanctuary on the west coast of the north island, nz. Recording was made at some feeder stations set up for the native stitchbird (hihi) but it seems that the bellbird was the predominant species on the day. This is in a light forest setting with a large number of birds moving around calling.

I took this sample from a phone message. I did use a live feed,(from the headset output on my phone, through a cable into my digital recorder. ) but it is very soft. When i tried recording with out the live feed, i couldn't even find the noise again. It could definitely use to be amped up a bit.

In this piece, the recording of an acoustic guitar was made,with the technique of listening with one ear from several points and distances, since, as we saw in course 2, doing that is like listening to the way in which the microphone picks up the sound; and that is the specific point where the microphone must be. A dynamic microphone, interface and computer with digital audio station was used.

I let excel randomize function give me 16 numbers between 1 and 8. Then i merge my parts in that order. Result an 8 bar loop. Done in audacity. Did not have to use number 1.

Realised to my dismay that this sound was not available. A card tapping and scraping on a ceramic plate. Designed to imitate the noise of cocaine being cut up. Recorded on a tascam dr-40 in a 4m square kitchen. Tea towel was placed under the plate to cut out an excessive noise from the plate itself. Recorded with a low frequency cut off at 80hz.

This is not the greatest recording ever, but you may find some use for it. Single player dribbling a basketball in an open gym and then some bank shots and some swishes. The slight hum in the background is the gym lights powering up. There is an mp3 and a wav version of this file.

A unique sound i recorded in bangkok whilst standing on a floating pier waiting for a boat. The pier is made of metal and the sound produced is the empty steel pier rubbing against the pylons with each wave of the river. You can also hear a boat motor as a ferry pulls up to the pier. Recorded with a tascam dr-05.

This may be the most irritating squeak sound ever. In our office, we discovered a particular filing cabinet that squeaked if you would lean against it. It was too good to pass up. So i put my recorder in the drawer and leaned. This is the result: four squeaks of unparalleled irritation. I hope you can find a use for this in your projects.

I used one of those blank plastic cds that you sometimes get when you buy cd holders. I broke it up into many pieces and dropped them multiple times adding on the ending to make it sound like the leftover pieces bounce. Sorry about the backround noises, recorded on a laptop with the fan running and a tv in the backround. Came out pretty good though. I was satisfied in the end though.

This is an alert signal from a real fire station. I tried to make a sound how they wanted it, and what i believe what was needed. Few things like 1) start softly to ease it when waking up in the night 2) some pauses for better recognition of speech or other signals heard same time 3) good cut trough background noise or whatever, stressless but good cut trough 3) limited length before announcement.

It's a recording of water boiling in a kettle. You can hear the electric gas ignitor, the ignition and then warming up. The water was already very hot so this wouldn't take forever to boil. Then the whistley does it's job. Rising, steady, then the gas was taken out and the whistle slowly fades away. Very long natural fade-out. Recorded with zoom h2. Edited and normalized with audacity.

A 24bit 29khz stereo recording of quite a rowdy sheep herd in a field. Has some very faint wind noise, but if used as ambiance it would not be noticeable. I like to put special attention into not only the sounds and rhythms used in my work, but also the shape of the tracks itself when looked at in an audio editor. I enjoy working with dc-offsetted sounds, as i believe that, although there is not much of a difference when listened to, they must be picked up differently somehow by the brain.

This is a foley recording i did for a cinematic nature documentary. In the scene you see lions pulling the guts out of a recently killed bison. As the sound assistant didn't want to get too close, i simulated the sound by mushing up a plate of lasagne in front of a pair of rode nt5's. Very suitable for zombie movies - have fun! :).

Skype interference or feedback sound effect. Its the sound your computer makes if your speakers are too loud. What happens is that your computer plays the sound coming from the person on the other side and then it plays over there and then plays back on your computer, it builds up in waves. Just turn your sound down and it should go away.
