This is a segment of a larger recording of a thunderstorm from march 24, 2012, in greensboro, north carolina, usa, including some small hail. This was taken on the night of march 24, 2012, with an olympus ls100 and an audio technica at-822 single-point x/y stereo microphone.

A recording of a thunderstorm using my zoom h4n from my front porch. The clip starts toward the tail end of the storm, and the thunder and rain slows down throughout. Starting in the middle and towards the end of the clip, there's even some birds and forest frogs in the background. A few cars drove past, and they can be heard as well.

I tried out some new gear and methods! more mountainside rain! a complete storm from beginning to end with swelling and then waning rainfall, occasional thunder. Ms stereo bar on mic stand projected through open second-floor window, just under the roof eaves. Recorded july 20th during one of the mid-afternoon brief intense storms we can seem to get frequently in the rocky mountain foothills beginning around june. If you were listening and wondering, the direct sound of the thunder is somewhat occluded as i believe the storm was behind the overhanging roof and house from the perspective of the microphone array. The mountainous terrain and other objects in the field reflected some of that thunderclap, as well as the exterior wall of the home, and so this is all a little bit funky. Nine minutes of a strong thunderstorm with heavy rain and frequent thunder, recorded on the back patio of my house. Recorded with an iphone 4, then converted to wav 48hz. The quality is pretty good. You don't hear any cars or other background noise, just lots of rain and thunder.

In three years, only two days where thunder was roaring very loud above my apartment. I am relieved to have been able to immortalize, with the windows open, this deluge amplified by the inner courtyard of my building. Microphones are located in my room, windows opened. Basicucho32bitsfloat_192khz.

Also used a few patches from a symsynth to build the thunderclap and some of the rain effects. Added some delays, reverb, compression and eq as well as splitting several tracks and offsetting them to create a spacial soundscape.
