Springtime thunderstorm recorded using a shotgun mic pointing out of a window. Mono recording but with a bit of stereo artificial reverb added. This longer recording features some distant sounds heard within a housing estate - distant chatter, cars, children. Recorded during the covid-19 lockdown.

City atmosphere - the mirkrofon was attached to an open skylight during a heavy rain with thunderstorm. In the background you can hear sirens of police and emergency vehicles, as well as other cars.

A very loud and rumbly thunderstorm rolled through jefferson city, mo. I set up my zoom h4n with the mics set to 120 degrees to record the storm. Less than a minute after i started recording, a lightning bolt hit just across the street. A lot of loud and rumbly thunder in this audio clip.

A flash thunderstorm in queensland came about randomly in the afternoon and i thought it would be cool to recorded it. I recorded it under an awning since i didn't want to get the recorder wet and the awning was acting a little like a wind tunnel so there's these high pitch wind noises too. Plus thunder in the background. Was recorded on a zoom h5. With the limiter turned on. Forgot to turn it off since it was spur of the moment.

This is a short clip from an intense thunderstorm, recorded from my second story queens apartment from an open bathroom window during the early afternoon of july 15, 2015. Some traffic and airplanes can be heard in the background. This clip was recorded using an apple iphone 6 and the zoom iq6 x/y stereo microphone with a rode dead kitten windscreen at low volume, normalized later. This recording lasts until the battery on my iphone hit 5%, at which point the zoom handy recorder app automatically stopped.

I'm attempting to create a controllable thunderstorm for a film, and this is my first legitimate attempt. This recording consists of 4 samples of rain, and another 3 samples of rain+thunder that i recorded one afternoon. Equipment used was the inbuilt mics on a roland r-26, and a sennheiser me66 into a sound devices 702. The clips were recorded at 96khz/24-bit, and they were processed at 48khz/24-bit. For processing, i put the samples into kyma, and crossfaded for texture. The howling wind sound is an analog-style low pass filter's frequency, level, and resonance being controlled by a wacom intuos4 pen/tablet. The rain slowly swells, which was done by changing parameters of a granular reverb. The thunder was also controlled by the wacom tablet, with x, y, and z (pressure) dimensions mapped to making the thunder swell in level, density, and texture. This could have been output in surround, but i don't have that many monitors ;). This style of "rain-synthesis" can also go on indefinitely. Please let me know what you think of the quality of this track; eg, if it sounds real, if the wind sounds ridiculous, too much thunder, etc. Use this sound (wherever) if you want to, or let me know if you'd like an mp3 of this, or for it to last longer. The sound of birds and distant thunder awoke me from a long nap, and so i sprung off the couch and grabbed my recording equipment, dashing outside just in time to record the arrival of a thunderstorm. Over the course of this clip, the storm gets closer and closer, until it starts to rain with increasing intensity. The clip is nicely unmolested by wind, and contains a nice background of birds. A tremendous thunderclap is featured in the middle, three minutes in.

A heavy thunderstorm, mid-afternoon, after a long heatwave. The third and last lightening strike was about 100 meters from the microphone. You can just about hear the click (impulse response) of air being ionized just before the thunder.

Thunderstorm on the evening of 20 march 2017 in ohio. Recorded with tascam dr-05 with level control set to limiter and limit value at 38 which yielded peaks about -12db. Processed in sony vegas and saved with sound markers.
