Breathing sound effect i created for a recent production of carries war. The sound is originally 40 seconds long but looped, as the play requires the sound fx to be present throughout a number of scenes fading in and out. Three high quality foley sounds of a low pitched echoing drum for suspense. For those who have played the game slender man, they just might ring a bell. These were made by using a sample of a drum and adding heavy low pass and adobe soundbooth's echo and dream sequence effect.

The signal was fed into a digidesign a/d converter and recorded in protools 9 in waveform audio file format. All the samples were subsequently edited with the gpl software audacity. A short clip of of a screaming electric guitar lick i made on my 1982 gibson les paul custom with marshall amp. It was recorded on a multi track music program, i then added chorus effect, the microphone was hooked directly to the desktop computer with reverb from a 50 watt marshall amp. A space-like sound. I imagined it as an airlock seal engaging in outer space, and the overwhelming sense of isolation through a shifting 8k tone. Believe it or not, i generated this sound not for battlestar galactica, but a courtroom scene on a play i designed the sound for.

Late august here in the midwest is the time for the loud choruses of insects. This recording, done in the backyard of a small town, features the classic"ebb and flow and swell" of the dusk insects. Since a park is nearby, you also hear in the background the excited voices of kids playing---maybe these youngsters do realize that soon they will be back in school and that the joyous, careful time of summer play and reflection will soon be over.
