Traffic passes on a tree-lined street in the early spring, before the leaves have sprouted. Birds sing and there are several minutes of ambience. Then, a siren can be heard in the distance and eventually, a big fire engine passes, siren blaring and engine roaring.

Lots of nighttime traffic and in the first two minutes, several loud vehicles pass and you hear three loud reports of distant fireworks followed by distant barking. There's about three more minutes of traffic and then the noise dies down to neighborhood hum in the last 45 seconds.

Self-created fire alarm. The idea is based on the typical fire alarm in buildings and was supplemented by a typical (slightly pitched) sound sequence of the us emergency vehicles. There is also a river-flowing kind of sound as this street floods in heavy rain, and the water runs from the street into a storm drain right beside my driveway. Various vehicles occasionally pass by.

Heard a barred owl calling in my backyard. Grabbed my zoom h4n with audio-technica at897 shotgun mic and started recording. Did some minor equalization to soften the higher frequencies and roll off the low end. Crickets are chirping in the background, a few other insects make some sounds. Soft droning of a couple planes flying by and vehicles from a highway about a mile away, but do not overpower the barred owl.

In my vague times, i wonder what the sound of small pieces of wood in the middle of the vastness of the forest, the sound of the trees beating with their different leaves, pity that is just an illusion of my mind, a citizen of the big city where vehicles and crowds make everyday noise. This is the soundscape i've recorded in my neighboorhood of cidade tiradentes, a district from são paulo, brazil. We name these events as pancadão (big punch) or fluxo (flow). When a flow occurs, you know that the sound is very high and it invades all surroundings. It happened in april 4, 2021, during our worst period in the the global covid-19 pandemic. Plent of people, vehicles, multiple speakers and so on in a street. I'm writing in the exact moment police came to repress, but in my conclusion only education can solve city problems, not repression, not paliative atitudes.
