I copied the gem breath sound effect from the original ex and pt tv series. I modified a noise i made with phaser. I had accidentally not known that i should set the pitch-shift in delay to off.

A recording of a high school class. Students were working on a sound effects project on computers, but generally allowed to talk as they worked. This is maybe 18 students, with the mic about 10 feet away from the nearest student, mic towards one side of the room, pointed towards the middle. We also have ac on, and an av cart that has a fan on, plus a wall clock, some of which you may not be able to hear over the students. Mic was the zoom h1 set to record a wav file, record level manual, low pass filter engaged, with the quality settings at the highest values. It was then put through audacity to amplify it to the highest allowable levels without distorting, and spit out as a wav.

Plane- it’s difficult to get good recordings of planes taking off these days. There’s always major streets or highways close by which results in a bunch of unwanted traffic noise. It’s difficult to find a good vantage point to set up because there’s hardly any public parking with unobstructed sight lines (or in my case hearing lines) to the planes. Plus, with all the extra security measures in place these days, how suspicious would i look setting up a laptop andsome cables and some other electronic equipment in the general area of the runway?but i managed to get this recording. It’s not spectacular, but it’s ok. There’s some worker truck at the end of it which gets in the way, but doesn’t ruin it. This is a low quality recording from a panasonic dvx camcorder microphone. This is a recording of random drum beats. Because of the low quality recording, i have not separated any of the beats, and have faded one into the other. The drum shells are spaun, and the cymbals are a mixture of zildjian and paiste.

Recorded on a phone, mysteriously, as a message on my answering machine. I have no knowledge as to who recorded it, where it was recorded, or whether it came from a live performance or not. All of the segments of this set combine sequentially, to form the full phone message.

An odd sound: i set pocket recorder out hoping to capture some birdsong; a raven swooped down and made a couple of passes above it. Perhaps he was attracted by the colorful fuzzy windscreen? at any rate: recorded on an olympus ls-14, some wind in the trees in the background.

A very typical recording of late summer as the insects wake up. This recording was done in the backyard in a small town around 5:00 in the morning. Just a wonderful example of the very rhythmic, ebb and flow that these choruses of summer make. I used my zoom h4n recorder with its internal built-in microphones with the volume set on 78. .

Note e. Atmospheric cinematic pad. I recorded the guitar, then processed a lot of reverb and added some synth sounds. You can put it in the sampler by setting the root note to e and you will have a complete instrument. I especially like to layer on it additionally the sounds of the waves that i put on my page before.

I used this sound set for the sound design on a 2d animated technology explainer video. These sounds are textural and real, which gives a nice contrast to slick graphics. Use these for text and thought bubbles, scene transitions, objects being built etc. Enjoy!.

Springtime in a rural indiana neighborhood. A pair of neumann km183 microphones connected by canare l-4e6s and neutrik connectors to a zoom f8 recorder. Gain set to 60db. No processing. Wind noise occasionally, but no overs. This would be a good file to experiment with highpass filtering to remove wind noise.
