A very typical sound-scape of an open field, bordered by the large shawnee national forest. A warm day in june, with a lot of birds, and, if you listen to the higher frequencies, in the background always there, are the ever-present insects. Recorded in june 2009 around 11:00 in the morning. Tempurature was about 78 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. This is also interesting in that it shows how, early in the summer, the bird vocalizations often are louder than the insects, but, as the summer goes on, this is reversed. . Listen to my insect recording from july and you'll see/hear what i mean. Equipment used: zoom h4n recorder, using the internal built-in microphones.

My first upload to freesound is a thunderstorm recorded in gateshead, uk, next to our open bathroom window. Some lovely thunderclaps and rain. Recorded on a zoom h5. There are also some household sounds swimming around in the background, doors closing, dishes clinking etc; i think you can hear the radio or something very faintly towards the end -- but there's plenty of clean usable thunder and rain in there. Incidentally i often use this type of thing in my long-form instrumental music, produced under the name conelrad. This is the ambience i created for my sci-fi sitcom accidentally reckless of a dropship of some kind approaching a battlefield (and certain death). The bare bones was created from a field recording of the x-1 bus going down attercliffe road towards sheffield city centre, during a period in 2017 when they were constantly resurfacing the stretch that goes past the swingers club, resulting in the bone shaking rattling sounds you can hear. I then layered on some laser and rocket noises (already uploaded) and some engine type sound effects and shuttle flypast effects that i don't think i've uploaded yet. The sound of a construction worker operating a concrete road saw on a rainy day is heard in this recording. The recording begins with the saw already in operation, then is shut off and shortly restarted. He makes a couple of passes on the section of road he is working on and turns the machine off. A nearby siren is also heard at the end, so the shutdown at the head can be used as an alternative. Gear: zoom h6, xyh-6 x/y capsule (120 degree stereo image), rycote windjammer. So i recently got a new portable recorder (sony pcm-d100). Early one spring morning, i could hear a woodpecker crystal clear from inside my room, with my noise canceling headphones still snug on my head. So naturally, i did a lil ambient recording. Since it was spring, the rich chorus of birdsongs made it, in my book, a freesound-worthy file. I didn't process this very much, except wrapping it around near the end so it could seamlessly loop back, and eqing it to bring out the birds more and soften the mic-noise. Field recordings extracted from videos i took while travelling on a vaporetto (small public transport canal boat) along the grand canal. You can hear the water, the engine revving as the boat criss-crosses the canal from one stop to the next and the(mostly english)chatter of other passengers on the boat. On "venice2" horns are blown by other vessels and someone says at the end "i'm getting off the boat". I have joined 2 tracks on this one and there is a small gap, but with the right equipment that can be edited out. All in all very evocative of the busy atmosphere in venice, even in march (2012).

This lovely little toy piano has been a member of my parent’s home since before i can remember. These days it falls under the jurisdiction of my 4-year old niece, who was ever so kind as to allow me to record it!. I was demoing the new digital performer 10. 1 with a royer r-10 pair in blumlein array but wanted to check out one of the ribbons because it possibly sounded blown so i went ahead not bothering to create a new mono file. The mic was tracked through a yamaha mixer into digital performer via a motu 624. I have various cymbals including a paiste hi-hat and a zildjian ride which i bowed or scraped. There is an occasional tiny bit of noise from the hard drive, sorry. It has the hiccups. Some of these have an effect or two like a flange on one or more and a bit of delay but mostly you just hear the marvelous and very interesting cymbals!.

A request for freesounder neilreynolds1980, intended as a soundtrack for the play dr faustus at the point the eponymous character is sucked into hell. A bit of technical information: the basic sound is a stacked set of ‘devil’s intervals’ (augmented fourths) with doubling at the octave, playing an instance of calf organ set to a truly horrifying demonic choir patch i created. The rest of the effects are accomplished using automation of this instrument as well as calf pulsator and calf filter in ardour. This sounds much better when downloaded than it does in the freesound player. The stereo image and sample rate are much reduced in the version you hear in the player.

A recording of a typical busy, yet peaceful later afternoon sound-scape of a small midwestern town at 5:30pm on a weekday. This was recorded on tuesday may 24th, 2016 using the marantz pmd661 and two sennheiser me66 microphones. . . True stereo recording. You will hear the delightful sound of neighborhood kids playing a friendly - or sometimes not so friendly - game of wiffleball which adds to the reflective nature of this recording. The trilling bird calling towards the end of the recording is the beautiful little, rusty-capped chipping sparrow. These chipping sparrows converge on the midwest around this time and their calls can be mistaken as an insect. In the onset, you hear the steady drone of the jets, people talking, coughing, sneezing, newspapers rustling and notebook computers being typed on. Now and then, passengers and stewardesses pass by the aisle. Near the end, a signal bell sounds, and the drone of the jets takes on a perceivably higher tone, shortly after which the landing in berlin is announced, first in german, then in english. Recorded with a zoom h2, the mics (rear) set to 120° dispersion.

This was all recorded in enumclaw, wa on july 4th, 2013. I used a yamaha pocketrak recorder throughout the day and into evening when the fireworks started. There's an old piano outside the music store and i just caught the end of a young guy playing some nice music. I then just walked down the street recording the sounds. You can hear me talking to a guy who's working for a local politician. The b-25 mitchell bomber flyover was totally unexpected and i was lucky to have had the recorder going. My small dog was running around outside and got pretty hot. When i brought her in, she began lapping up water at a fast pace. She's also a little sniffly so it got some nice sniffle noises in there too. I feel like this could work well for plenty of different character shots, from a monster, to a comedy-type shot of someone eating something like noodles, to a dog drinking water in an animation. Boring sound. . . Neuron patch (?). . . Inspired by nlc squid axon (i have saved some hp for that one!) i have patched up a simple 2 stage asr with 2 s/h. Most of the time it plays its atonal melody, but when the patch is stimulated (by a sloth lfo) feedback opens up. I can adjust the sensitivity in different ways (so i can simulate the intake of drugs. . . ). The sound from the oscs goes though vcfs with some resonance. The vcfs are controlled by the same sloth lfo. My neuron patch. . . No hands during recording. My favourite part is when nothing happens - for almost 1 min?! but you can hear the filter working via the vcfs. The cv must be in some strange area.

There was a busy street 50m far from the apartment building itself, a bit further there was a park. Rain at that night was heavy. Just having some fun with the 6 inches of snow that we received. The first part of this is me walking/breaking some ice that had formed in a low area and then me walking on snow, which has a frosty glaze on top of it. Recorded with the handy/zoom h-4n recorder using its built-in microphones. The built-in microphones can be adjusted to pick up sound from 90 degrees around the microphones to 180 degrees. For this recording, i had them on 180 degrees. *note, you will also -- if you listen carefully -- hear a male robin singing in a tree. Bird singing recorded at around 3:40 am with yinger bm 800 ldc-microphone in front of my open window, i had to add some noise reduction because of my computer fan with reafir (there isn't really much of that noise left, atleast if compared to original). You can also maybe hear ocassional space bar-click sound maybe twice, but it's still pretty useable clip in my opinion, i recorded this just to test my new microphone, and because i couldn't sleep because of the loud birds singing, and in revenge i recorded that with my shiny new yinger bm800. This is a clip of various engine sounds recorded on my 2003 subaru impreza wrx with a 3" turbo-back exhaust system. The audio starts with the engine at idle and includes a few engine revs at different rpms. You can hear some turbo whistling and also some rattling of god-knows-what parts. It's a little muffled (kind of a muddy sound), but could be used as part of an action sequence or with a music track laid over. A stark soundscape of the icy wind swooshing through dry oak leaves on the edge of a midwestern lake. Plus, as an added bonus, from out of nowhere two fast-moving canada geese come storming through at only about 25 feet from where i was standing!. I was very lucky because they are so close that at some point during this recording, you can actually hear the sound of the wind being pummeled by the beating of the geese's very large, strong wings. Equipment: sound devices mixpre-6 and sennheiser mkh 416 inside a blimp. Recorded on monday december 28 2020 around 1:30 in the afternoon. This is almost the same kick drum i´ve uploaded previously, but this has more compression and overtones in the sub bass, along with an interesting technique i´ve been doing, lemme explain. . . I put the original sample twice in my daw (fl studio if you ask),leave the first sound like it is and the second sample is being equalized in a way that only the sub bass is being showed, so i added to that the saturation plugin ivgi2 from klangheim industries and slammed it with the plugin ott by xfer records about 9 times. Equalized the sound again to cut the sub bass and leave the raw high end sound you hear, finally added an izotope ozone imager to make it wider.

While attempting to create a sick ass dubstep wob noise in rob papen's albino synth plugin, i managed to stumble across a telephone-like sound while pitching the filter cutoff on a weird shaped wave oscillator. Bowling alley- the thing with recording a bowling alley is that the pins are so far away. When you’re the one bowling, you’re not really listening to all the chatter around you; in fact your brain does its best to cancel it out (it’s called selective listening, google it), and so you really hear the clamoring of the pins as they crash and fall. Microphones don’t have any such ability; they just take in whatever sound waves reach them, and they don’t care either way about the relative loudness of those sound waves. So what happens in a recording like this is that even though it sounds like any ordinary (busy) bowling alley, the pins sound really far away in relation to the human chatter. The eerily quiet soundscape of a small midwestern town during the covid-19 shutdown. . . This was recorded in town, on a friday night (april 3rd, 2020) at a time when there is almost always more traffic, people and families walking and talking on the sidewalks. . This recording started at 11pm at night. . . What a strange, weird eerie feeling of this track. You will hear a lot of steady wind gusts, dry leaves being moved around by the strong southerly flow. . I had to really crank up the gain on this one because everything was so quiet---almost as if the neighborhood was holding its breath. . . . Hope you enjoy this unique ambiance.

A recording of a high school class. Students were working on a sound effects project on computers, but generally allowed to talk as they worked. This is maybe 18 students, with the mic about 10 feet away from the nearest student, mic towards one side of the room, pointed towards the middle. We also have ac on, and an av cart that has a fan on, plus a wall clock, some of which you may not be able to hear over the students. Mic was the zoom h1 set to record a wav file, record level manual, low pass filter engaged, with the quality settings at the highest values. It was then put through audacity to amplify it to the highest allowable levels without distorting, and spit out as a wav.

Been fairly busy lately, but, finally i'm glad to be able to get around to posting some more wonderful, enjoyable nature sounds. This is a hot-humid july ambiance recorded at midday in the shawnee national forest in illinois. The predominant bird you hear is an eastern towhee. His call literally sounds like he is thirsty and tired of the heat of summer!this woods recording has the feel of slow motion summer, but still with the exciting and subtle knowledge that, things are starting to give way to autumn, and indoor schedules and long shadows. . Recorded thursday july 21, 2022. Equipment: zoom f3 and lom usi pro microphones. Recording in deep hardwood forest containing many hickory trees, beech trees and a lot of oak trees. A magical place.

If you stand just underneath a commercial airplane as it's coming in to land (as was the case here at dfw airport) and so long as there's not a lot of noise around you (like loud traffic, etc. ) then when the jet passes overhead, what you can't see is that at the tips of the wings are rapidly spinning vortices of air that coil off the wingtips as the plane passes through air. These long, coiling spirals of air will eventually "close" and as that happens, it creates a momentary but bizarre, surreal sound that you really need to hear for yourself in person to get the full effect. This was the best i could capture on august 15th, 2022. Enjoy!.

This is my first recording using my binaural mic. I took a walk to meet my wife for lunch and decided to record it. It was windy outside, and even with the standard foam wind protection, you can still hear some wind rumble. It might be fixed using some low cut filtering but i wanted to post it as is. This take started inside my recording studio and ended in a fairly large avenue with lots of traffic (cars and motorcycles). There is a pause on the recording by 01:59, when i had to change the mic cable position. Signal chain: roland cs-10em (with foam windscreen) > sony pcm-m10 (rec level: manual, at about 3,5; mic sensitivity: low; limiter: off; low cut filter: disabled).
