Stereo-recording at home from my external hard-disk drive, power is switched on and the disk starts to spin until it stops.

Sounds of an old hard disk drive from 2005 (hitachi). You hear starting of the spinning noise and the heads rumbling when data is read and written. I started a short defragmenting to make the disk noisy. Recorded with a roland r-05.

Recording of a 1995 compaq computer desktop hard drive. Features electronic whirring, powering up / down sounds, whirring, clicking, "memory access" noise. Could be used for e. G. A movie scene with computers in the background, glitchy techno, etc.

This was recorded by holding a small pcm recorder (zoom h1n) very close to an ipod 4th generation. The ipod was turned on and its hard drive tried to start up. You can hear the spin up of the motor and the hard drive head clicking back and forth. The hard drive fails to power up completely and eventually shuts down again. A 350 hz high pass filter was applied, in addition to audacity noise reduction, to get this clean motor noise from the original recording. The stereo file was then mixed to mono because the mic was slightly off center from the ipod, and the stereo provides no benefit. The hard drive in this ipod is a 1. 8" 40 gb toshiba hard drive, the ipod model is a1059. The microphone was held just 3 cm (1. 2 in) from the ipod. Recording settings were stereo 44. 1 khz at 16 bit (wav format). The file is the same except it's mono.

Channeling the /dev/sda1 hard drive partition into a file. At last i've imported the raw file properly as the 8-bit unsigned linear pcm. This is 8bit mono 44100 hz windows wave. Lots of strange digital sounds. Quite useful for noise and experimental musicians. Interesting that if we just do cat /dev/sda1 > /dev/dsp we hear different sound more like modem 56k. This is probably one of the best snares i have made yet. Hard transient, tape saturated, and squashed to bits, when played with very bright sounds and heavy bass, this really can handle it, and cut through.

I clicked it so hard, that if i clicked it half as hard twice at the same time, it would be the same volume!!! there's quite a bit of background noise on this one because i am the king of maximum gain. Bzzhzhhshshhzhzhhhzzzz.

Inserting, reading, launching a program, and ejecting a dvd-r in a usb disc drive (repackaged "hp dvdram gu90n" laptop drive) with the occasional rumble of a 2tb 7200rpm internal hard drive (in an enclosure) and mouse clicks. Computer fan may be audible in background. Contains seek noises. Recorded on blue yeti in omnidirectional mode and denoised in rx 8 (drive whine re-enhanced though as noise removal made it quieter). Labels added to audio in fl studio edison.

Heavy distortion with a simple repeating riff from a to g. Probably good for an intro or break.
