A heartbeat sound i created. Fairly consistent through most of it, and then speeds up into heart-attack mode about 30 seconds from the end. To make it, i took a kick-drum sample and a snare-drum sample, and made a pattern of kick-snare, kick-snare, kick-snare, over and over. I then eq'd them to be less distinct and drum-like, added tape saturation to increase the low-end thumping, a small chorus effect and some compression to get rid of the drums' attack. . . Basically just over-processed the hell out of it. Then i used a plugin called wok m-st to get a fake hard-panned stereo effect. My goal was to make it sound like your heartbeat sounds in your ears when you've been running too fast for too long. I think it sounds cool.

This sample consists of noise recorded via a hondo strat electric guitar resp. The guitar's neck pickup. Throughout the sample there is a low hum. In the beginning, a mobile phone was moved in front of the pickup. The noise might have been created by the clock of the phone's cpu or the backlight of the phone. After that, one crt display is switched on resulting in a buzz. Later on, a second crt display is switched on, again resulting in a buzz followed by additional noise in higher frequencies. Then, a neon light is switched on, creating even more noise. Towards the end, again the mobile phone. . . The guitar was connected to a scott&noble ht25r amplifier which was recorded with a t. Bone sc450 condenser and a behringer ddx3216 digital console directly into ardour.

A neighbor of mine might have just peed in his pants if he couldn't shoot off his illegal commercial fireworks before the fourth. So, july first, his manly outpouring of window-rattling bomb blasts echoed across an entire valley. For nearly two hours. I like fireworks. When i go to see 'em. Not so much when i can't get away from them. Sure, i could have gone shopping, or out for a drink. I recorded it instead. This particular explosion is just the largest of those that came after i started recording. It's just a lowly iphone but it does pretty well. Admittedly, even with no amplification it might have been too much for the microphone. You have the clear launch sound followed by burst and echo. The same blast kicks off the other fireworks file i am uploading.

We have the movie "chronicles of riddick" starring vin diesel, and at one point thandie newton walks around him, seeking approval. She gets it, as vin growls, "it's been a long time since i smelled beautiful. " his voice is incomparable, as he exudes a touch of evil with that. Nevertheless i laugh every time i hear it, because it suggests he needs a shower. Try as we might though, we can't quite duplicate it. This was the most recent and possibly best effort. We can't publish vin's voice so here you go. Repeated it once with a bit of reverb. We tried this before and it was moderated and posted. Apologies to the moderator, there was a glitch in the file because i can't get him to say "i" instead of "i've" and i had tried to remove the letter "v. ".

I get annoyed easily when i hear someone telling me what to do. It gets me in trouble. This was a while ago. I hadn't ever been caught at that point, and he was the one recording. He actually got me started on that. Of course, i had taken off the offending articles of clothing and kicked off my sneakers, and was locked outside my own front door that way. Of course i couldn't go anywhere, and the only unlocked window had an air conditioner in it. Yes i did. Right over the top of it, might have looked pretty clumsy, at least…i know it was risky but not as bad as standing out there. Luckily it was a back window. Unluckily, it was raining. Hard. Should have let him build that fence.

There i was late a night. I was turning my computer off after editing my site. I was silenced by night. But there was a storm a brewin' i opened my bedroom window and put my ear to the icy wind. I knew then this wasn't the usual mellow wind. I ran down the stair with my zoom h4n equipped, went through the garage into the black of night. I sent my gain levels to 60 and with only a foam wind shield i put it between to to boards of wood to act as a wind shield thus allowing my to capture the wind slicing through the trees. With only adjusting the gain levels slightly in post nothing else been done, allow you to add you own effect on it.

So far i've been pretty stunned by the performance of these capsules, which are significantly more sensitive than the built in microphones on the h1, and to my ears sound much less muddy. I'm particularly impressed by this because the capsules are running on the 2. 5v of plug-in power that the h1 delivers, which is below the minimum specs of the capsules. Even so there is remarkably little noise. I can only imagine how they would sound with a battery pack to deliver a full 5 volts!.

Several years back my older brother stumbled upon a bunch of old family reel to reel films and sat down one evening to project them on a wall and digitize them. This is the sound of that process. What you can hear, i imagine, is the noise of the projector in the left channel and the sound of the reels in the right channel. I've been obsessed with the sounds of the infinite variation in old analog hardware. As a sound designer, that infinite variation is often sought after but rarely, or accurately, reproduced through digital files in various libraries. Of if they are, they're often too short to cover whatever scene i am trying to fill. On the surface it's just noise but if you listen closer it's this wonderful cacophony of overlapping and repeating sounds that are always looping but never quite identical on each rotation. It was ripped from youtube using audio hijack at 48khz/16bit, but due to youtube re-encoding things as youtube does, it's nowhere near the source. It's still, in my opinion, a sound worth sharing. Binaural* recording of cathedral bells repeating over and over (not looped). Towards the end of the file the bells are heard from a distance (the recording continued while walking away). Recording notes:. 1. Recorded in the field using soundman okm ii binaural microphones with the h1 zoom recorder. Sunday 87/2/2015 mid afternoon. 2. The recording has been left unedited to allow the greatest amount of creative reworking. 3. Recordings are as long as possible for video usage (it's easier to shorten a sound than to expand it). 4. Today begins a week of immense global protests and strikes to bring attention to the climate issue. Of course, i attended the guildford protest, participated and documented it here with some of its vocal chanting from a crowd of several hundred. This is a recording of an office paper shredder starting up. This model of paper shredder has a button that you can press to run it briefly in reverse, in order to clear paper jams and clean the blades. If the shredder hasn't been used in a while, it takes several seconds to start, and makes a cool noise while doing so. The click at the start of the recording is the switch being pressed. You then hear the motor struggling to start up for about five seconds, and finally it comes up to speed. The high-frequency crackling you hear, particularly once the motor is running smoothly, comes from bits of paper still rolling around in the blades (easy to convert into a campfire or rain). There's another click at the end when the reverse button is released. I uploaded this because several parts of the recording sounded like they'd lend themselves to morphing in various ways to create other interesting noises. Recorded with a hand-held zoom h4n, stereo 96 khz / 24 bits, with the built-in mics, positioned about six inches above the rotating blades of the shredder.

This recording was done on a balmy day in early november at the shore of a small lake in southern illinois. Even though it was november, i was in a short-sleeve t-shirt, because of the warm weather that we had been having. However, there was a huge, approaching mass of cold air from canada approaching which resulted in some tremendous, steady winds, gusting up to 40 miles an hour. I literally had my zoom h4n recorder sitting in some sedge-type grasses inches from the lake, which enabled me to get the clear, crisp sound of the wind-driven wages breaking over the small rocks and sticks. Occasionally you will hear a dull roar of the wind, which i was able to decrease a bit using my graphic equalizer, although as you listen to the entire piece you will notice that i just could not eliminate all of the “wind roar”,. Still, i think this is an effective, realistic sound-record of what happens when cold air hits head on with warm air over a lake. Again, this was recorded using the zoom h4n digital audio recorder, using the built-in stereo microphones. Enjoy.

Created this excerpt for my film "one thing". Melodic cello is joined by chirpy guitar to create an odd mood. Very lovely imo. Not a complete piece but a nice sound-bite?.
